Hadiya & Peter’s Long Island Micro Wedding

Hadiya and Peter’s love story began when they met in high school many years ago. Fate brought them together in college, where they began dating. They were set to have a large August wedding on Long Island but, like everything else, the pandemic affected their original wedding plans. The current restrictions required Hadiya and Peter to limit the number of guests who could attend in person. But luckily, they did not have to postpone their nuptials.

Although they had to limit their in-person guest list, they did not want to completely exclude those who could no longer be there on their special day. That’s where we came in! We worked with Hadiya and Peter to curate the perfect package that would allow them to provide a virtual experience to the rest of their guests so they did not have to miss out.

On the day of their wedding, there was not a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect, warm sunny day and the natural light shining through the glass ceiling spotlighted the happy couple as they entered the Skylight room at Jericho Terrace. The stunning room, filled with sparkling chandeliers and a 20 ft glass ceiling, welcomed a small number of friends and family and provided a beautiful backdrop to the 80 additional guests watching online.

The emotional ceremony began with a pre-recorded poem from a family friend that we streamed to all guests, present and virtual, and brought tears to everyone’s eyes. Hadiya and Peter held a traditional African ceremony that included a tasting of the four elements and tying the knot. During the ceremony, Hadiya and Peter tasted four flavors meant to represent different stages within their marriage: cayenne for spiciness, lemon for sourness, vinegar for bitterness, and honey for sweetness.  By tasting each of the flavors, the couple symbolically demonstrated that they would persevere through the hard times in life together and enjoy the sweetness of marriage. Hadiya and Peter also tied the knot, where their wrists were tied together to symbolize their unity. With their wrists tied, the couple shared their vows and confirmed their commitment to each other and their marriage. It was an emotional ceremony for the bride, groom, and their guests. Following the ceremony, Hadiya and Peter took a moment to thank their virtual guests for joining in on their joyous moment and continued with their reception.

We are so grateful they chose Thirty4thStreet Productions to live stream their wedding ceremony! And, we are so happy that Hadiya and Peter were able to include their extended family in their celebration. We wish them many years of love and happiness!
