What is a Micro Wedding & Should You Have One?

A micro wedding may not have been what you’ve been dreaming of when thinking about your big day, but don’t let that get you down! There are a ton of amazing benefits to having a micro wedding or minimony. First, let’s determine if you should have one.

A few reasons you might consider having a micro wedding:

  1. The most common reason right now is that, due to new guidelines and restrictions around Covid-19, you can no longer gather your entire guest list into your venue. So, you need to cut your guest list or find a smaller venue.

  2. Your date is sentimental. You want to keep your wedding date and start the next chapter of your life with your soon to be spouse.

  3. Love can’t wait! You’re planning to have a large reception at a later date, but you can’t wait to tie the knot a minute longer.

If you’ve found yourself in one of the situations above, a micro wedding may be the best option for you. What is a micro wedding you ask? Let us explain:

A micro wedding is a small ceremony where you become legally married in front of a handful of friends and family, typically 20 or less.

It usually consists of a shorter timeline with a quick ceremony and a more casual and relaxed reception, if having a reception at all. Unlike an elopement, a minimony still generally includes all aspects of a typical wedding, where elopements focus on just the union of the couple with few or no guests.

With a micro wedding, you can (and should) still enjoy all of your traditional wedding activities including registering for gifts, having a bridal party, cutting the cake, enjoying your first dance and wearing the dress of your dreams.

There are many additional benefits to having a micro wedding you may want to consider:

  1. Money, honey. Micro weddings can be much more affordable than standard weddings. With fewer guests you have fewer meals and beverages to serve, fewer rentals for tables and chairs and fewer decorations to purchase since your venue may be smaller. Or, you can choose to repurpose your funds and splurge on those elaborate place settings, beautiful florals and over-the-top party favors you’ve always dreamed of.

  2. Speaking of venues, you can now choose an adorable intimate location that will be picture perfect. Imagine a quaint backyard, a scenic park, sunset on the beach, a dock on the lake, a trendy rooftop, or a cozy barn. Many of these venues do not typically allow for large guest counts but now, your options are seemingly endless.

  3. Quality time. With fewer guests, you are able to have genuine interactions with each guest and really bask in the love. Or, if you still want to include all of your guests, you can integrate a live-streaming option so that your guests near and far can join you virtually and not miss a thing.

These are just a few of the benefits of having a micro wedding. If it feels like a lot to navigate, you may want to considering hiring a planner to help!
